I completely agree...well...that's an overstatement. I agree that childhood obesity is a problem. I agree that something needs to be done. How about spending some of that hard earned tax payers money on helping parents provide healthy meals by reducing the cost of those healthy meals? We're going to spend a ton of money on "education." Hell, you can educate me all you want about healthy eating, but when push comes to shove, providing fresh produce for EVERY meal is cost prohibitive for not only me, but for every average, hard working American on the face of the damn planet.
All that money spent on treating obesity related illnesses? Well, it could have been fixed years ago by looking at the welfare programs, income limits and WIC programs. WIC only applies to children aged 5 and under. Why?
We spend millions upon millions of dollars a year helping other countries, while our own children are not able to eat well. How about doing something for THIS country? Take that money you were going to send to Haiti and give it to Americans to feed their kids fresh produce on a daily basis. Farmers market checks and WIC checks are a great way to do this. And not only are you supporting better health in our children, but you are supporting AMERICAN farmers with those same checks that they will redeem for that money that you were going to send off to another freaking country, instead of using it for your own citizens.
How bout those food deserts? Perhaps you could find a way to make it worth while for the citizens of this great country by providing incentives to farmers to make the trip to those areas once or twice a week. We might also spend a few dollars to educate people in those areas about the joys of canning fresh fruits and vegetables. They are still oh so good for you, but will keep forever.
Really, is it that hard to take care of your own first? Is it that hard to find a way to actually prevent the issue before it becomes an issue by taking care of the citizens in this country who actually pay you to do a job?
Put that in your White House garden salad tonight and chew on it.
