This is one of the most ridiculous law suits I have ever heard of...criminal charges for following through on something this nurse believed was wrong? She was doing her job, which is something that many people never do, to the best of her ability. Trying to protect the innocent is the duty of every single citizen of the United States. If she is found guilty, it will stop any other medical provider from "blowing the whistle" on not only someone in the medical profession, but also situations like child abuse.
Is this really a precedent that we want to set? If the doctor wasn't doing anything wrong, then he should have stood up to the investigation that should have happened because of this letter, taken his lumps and been found innocent of all claims. And then he should have thanked this nurse for standing up for what she believed in.
Instead, some cowpoke sheriff can pat himself on the back for causing everyone in the United States to think, rethink and think again about standing up for what they believe in. Perhaps he should face criminal charges for misuse of power AND misuse of official information? This case should have never made it past the DA, who obviously is looking for his 5 minutes of fame in a small town that will otherwise never make the map with a newsworthy story.
Really, do you NOT have better things to spend tax payers money on, instead of prosecuting a woman who followed the correct steps to report what she believed to be medical misconduct??
